Snowshoe is, of course, best known for the great skiing, but there’s this just the beginning at this great Appalachian treasure. Once the snow is gone, and the mountain starts to turn green, it opens up a whole new world of adventure and activities.
Whatever floats your boat, you’ll find new ways to enjoy the ‘Shoe as the days warm up. Shavers Lake is a great place to start. Whether it’s lounging on the beach or being on the water in a canoe, a kayak or a paddleboard. And yes, there’s even a disc golf course. Drop by The Lake outpost to grab your discs or any other beach accessories, and, of course, snacks. Be sure to try the ice-cream.
On the subject of ice-cream and other delicious things, there are no shortage of options to enjoy the myriad of gastronomical delights on the mountain. Whether you need a quick slice of pizza, looking to grab a beer with friends, or treat a special someone to a nice dinner, you’ll find what you’re looking for at Snowshoe. Did we mention tacos? And sushi?
Bikes may just be the best part of summer at Snowshoe
The stellar location of Snowshoe Mountain means you have access to so many ways to enjoy time on the bike. In addition to the downhill thrills of the bike park, there is the expansive trail network of the Snowshoe Highlands Centre, the backcountry trails for the more adventurous, or the stunning Greenbrier trails. There really is something here for everyone.

There are e-bike tours if you want the enjoyment of exploring the trails, but with a little support on the climbs. The tour is an hour and half long but will help you get your bearings, so you know where you want to go the next time. Trust us, there will be a next time.
When we talk about mountain biking at Snowshoe, most people think of the bike park and go “No, no, that’s not for me”. Bike park images typically show the biggest jumps and the gnarliest trails that the adrenaline types enjoy; but there’s so much more to it. There are over 40 trails, including some really fun, not scary beginner trails that provide a gentle introduction to the delight of the bike park. Lessons and rentals are available for adults and kids, but you know, everyone is a kid once you’re having fun on a bike.

A short drive from Snowshoe Mountain, you can find the Greenbrier River trail. It’s a 78mile trail created on a former railroad, used for hiking and biking. The best part about railroad trails is the forgiving grade. Bike rentals are available as are shuttle services – handy for when you don’t want to have to ride all the way back. Here’s a link to find out more.
There’s still hiking trails, off-road tours and dining options, golf at The Raven, fishing, yoga and a long list of other activities you can enjoy with family and friends at Snowshoe this summer. We’ll talk more
about those in a future blog post, but in the meantime, here’s a look at the event schedule so you can plan your summer adventure at Snowshoe.
